who we are

Our Vision

At City On A Hill Church, our vision is to radiate Christ.

“ You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. ”
Matthew 5:14-16 (ESV)

Our Mission

We exist to make, equip, and send disciples of all nations into the world for Kingdom work.

“ And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age. ”
Matthew 28:18-20 (ESV)

“ And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ. ”
Ephesians 4:11-13 (ESV)

“ How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news! ”
Romans 10:14-15 (ESV)

Our Core Values

UNITY — The church moves as one. We are stronger together than we are apart.

BELONGING — The church is a place you can call your own. We believe the church to be an assembly where everyone is welcome, honored, and given opportunity to find rest in Christ.

PARTNERSHIPS — We are not alone. We recognize that God is moving in other churches and organizations as well. Therefore, as a church, we believe that partnerships are crucial to our mission and vision.

SEEING LIVES TRANSFORMED — Out with the old, in with the new. We believe in seeing transformation in the lives of all God’s people. Discipleship is pertinent to our ministry.

INTIMACY WITH CHRIST — It’s about Him. Jesus matters! And therefore, everything that matters to Him matters to us!

Our History

City On A Hill Church was a church plant of Warren Hmong Alliance Church, born out of the desire to serve God and to fulfill Jesus’ command to make disciples of all nations. In 2012, a few families met regularly as a house church to worship, pray, and read the Bible. The church officially launched in September 2014. Our vision is to radiate Christ and we love seeing Jesus transform lives through the proclamation of the gospel.

Pastor Toua Thao and his family served their calling as City On A Hill’s church planter from 2012-2019. In October 2019, we welcomed Reverend Jimmy Yang and his wife, Judy, as our Lead Pastor. We look forward to many years of ministry together as we live out our calling within Metro Detroit and the world.
